Co-Designing Assistive Technology for Self-Management with and for Persons Living with Dementia

with Dr Dympna O’Sullivan

Dr Dympna O’Sullivan is the Academic Lead of the Digital Futures Research Hub at TU Dublin. She is a Computer Scientist by background with a BSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from University College Dublin.

Her research is in Health Informatics, with a focus on decision support systems to support clinician and patient decision making, as well as in assistive technologies for older adults and persons with disabilities to support self-management. This work involves research across many aspects of the domain including electronic and personal health records, machine learning and intelligent algorithms, explainable AI, sensors and smart home technologies, accessible user interfaces and theories of health behaviour change. She is the Principal Investigator of two Research Ireland funded projects (Smart Self Care for Dementia and Co-Design for Dementia) which explore the participatory design and development of assistive technologies for person with dementia and an EU funded project, Inclusion4EU, investigating co-design as a methodology for more inclusive software design practices.
